Pakenham Water Recycling Plant works from September 2025

You might not notice a lot of the work we do because most of it is beneath your feet. Every day, we’re maintaining and upgrading the pipes and pumps that keep the sewage network flowing.

With some upcoming works in our Pakenham Water Recycling Plant (WRP) on Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road in Pakenham, you might see us or our contractor BFHI around.

Here’s what to expect while we get the job done.

Pakenham WRP Wet Weather Storage and Pump Station

The Pakenham Wet Weather Storage and Pump Station project will construct 2 earthen, concrete-lined lagoon storages at the Pakenham WRP with a combined capacity of 19.5 million litres.

A wet weather sewage pump station will then transfer sewage to these lagoons to help manage flows to the WRP during extreme wet weather events.

This essential upgrade will minimise the risk of spills from the network into the environment during wet weather, and return sewage to the system once conditions improve.

We’re working with our industry partner Abergeldie, BMD & KBR (ABK) to help us deliver the project.

When it's happening

ABK crews are currently working within the WRP to conduct service investigations and prepare the site for works.

We’re planning to start construction on the project in approximately September 2025, with completion expected by October 2026 (depending on the weather).

You can expect us to work Monday to Friday between 7 am and 5 pm. On the odd occasion, we might need to work at other times for safety or technical reasons.

What might impact you

We’ll do our best to keep impacts to a minimum, however these are some things you might notice while we work:

  • More trucks accessing the Pakenham WRP off Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road. Please take care when travelling around the WRP and driveway.
  • Noise and dust from machinery.
Don't miss these details

ABK will have a site compound set up within the Pakenham WRP.

We'll access the WRP through the main driveway off Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road. We'll do our best to reduce impacts and clean up the road if required.

You shouldn't notice any change to your water or sewer services while we work.
