Works in Brighton East and Bentleigh

You might not notice a lot of the work we do because most of it is beneath your feet. Every day and night, we’re maintaining and upgrading the pipes and pumps that keep the sewerage network flowing.

With upcoming works in Brighton East and Bentleigh you might see us around. Here's what to expect while we get the job done.

What we're doing

The Bentleigh Interceptor Branch Sewer Renewal will increase the reliability of the sewer network and reduce the risk of spills to cater for population growth in the area and future proof the sewerage system.

This project will renew five kilometres of sewer pipeline in Brighton East and Bentleigh and is currently in the planning phase.

To help us plan the renewal, we've conducted investigative works which involved assessing and monitoring the capacity of the existing sewer pipe, using temporary flow monitors.

When it's happening

We completed investigative works from October to November 2025.

The project is in the planning phase and we haven't finalised construction timelines. We'll let you know when we'll be starting works.

What might impact you

We’ll do our best to keep impacts to a minimum, however these are the kinds of things you might notice while we work:

  • Partial road closures in sections along the alignment as work progresses (please refer to map below).
  • Traffic management in place to guide road users around the work zone. We will pack up and return the road to normal operation at the end of each shift.
  • More vehicles on the streets around you.
  • Lights to illuminate the work site.
  • Fewer car parks around the works area.
  • Construction noise from machinery, like beepers when trucks reverse.

Construction staff will be around to make sure people, bikes and cars can move around safely. You'll still have access to footpaths and businesses in the area.

Don't miss these details

The investigative works have been completed to help us finalise construction details and timelines for the project. Our next steps will be to finalise the designs and return to start construction. We'll let you know before we start these works.

You shouldn’t notice any change to your water or sewer services while we work. When we’ve finished the job, we’ll leave things how we found them and make sure we return any areas we’ve impacted as close as possible to their original condition.
